Latency launches its catalog with a bold and immersive debut by Innerspace Halflife, the collaborative project of Chicago producers Hakim Murphy and Ike Release. With Post Industrial EP, the duo lays the foundation for what would become a distinctive and exploratory approach to deep electronic music.
Across three tracks, Innerspace Halflife constructs a raw, hypnotic sound world. Built around analog textures and live hardware sessions, the EP draws from the legacy of Chicago house while diving into darker, more atmospheric territories.
“Crown Vic” opens the record with swirling pads and rugged percussion, evoking a decaying cityscape full of latent energy. On the B-side, “Edo Tensei” slides into a meditative groove of submerged basslines and layered synths, while “Sink Monster” closes the EP with a dreamy, abstract composition.
As a final, defining gesture, all the record sleeves were printed by hand. This artisanal approach underscored Latency’s commitment to physicality and detail, from the sound to the object. With Post Industrial EP, Latency set the tone for its curatorial vision: forward-thinking music, deeply rooted in texture, place, and presence. A powerful first statement.
