Tuell’s solo outings may be rare, but when they surface, they expand the boundaries of techno and house with unmistakable character. Co-founder of the Workshop record label, Tuell brings his singular voice to Latency with The Longing Way EP—a collection of three deeply personal tracks produced between 2001 and 2012.
Opening with “Precious Cloud,” the EP reveals Tuell at his most emotive. Delayed keys and delicate, plucked strings drift through space, creating a sense of longing that lives up to the record’s title. “Beats Come” pushes into more experimental terrain, its slow-moving bassline saturated with molasses-thick low end and surrounded by stray tones and fractured textures. It’s abstract yet undeniably physical. Closing the record, “Digidawn” balances both impulses: plaintive piano chords meet cascading glitches, evoking a dreamlike loop of memory and decay.
Spanning over a decade of sonic exploration, The Longing Way EP offers an intimate glimpse into Tuell’s evolving aesthetic—melancholic, unpredictable, and quietly radical. Another step in Latency’s commitment to timeless, genre-defying music.
