Following ‘Estradas’ recognition as one of 2024’s best music by Pitchfork, The Wire, Resident Advisor, Artforum, Bandcamp, and many more, ‘Estradas (Versions)’ invites a diverse lineup of producers to deconstruct and reimagine the raw percussive language initially crafted by Magaletti and Nídia. Where the original Estradas channeled their distinct rhythmic sensibilities into a bold sonic statement, this collection pushes those ideas further–opening the material to radical transformation across tempo, genre, and mood.
DJ Anderson do Paraíso opens with a slow-burning, hallucinatory take on “Andiamo.” Mexico-based Rosa Pistola and Freebot inject “Rapido” with raw, syncopated Latin heat. DJ Plead strips “Sicilia” down to polyrhythmic tension, while BADSISTA’s “Mata” hits hard with slicing synths and bass-heavy pressure. FAUZIA brings her signature emotional speed to “Nasty,” and Sherelle turns “Estradas” into a breakbeat storm. Yu Su softens that same track into a fluid, atmospheric drift. Fergus Jones reshapes “No Promises” into hypnotic rhythmic terrain. Kelman Duran stretches “Ta A Bater Ya” into echoing shadows, while Charif Megarbane and his Cosmic Analog Ensemble reimagine it with lush, cinematic textures.
