Conceived by Paris-based label Latency, this compilation brings together nine exclusive solo works that challenge conventional perceptions of the harp. Long associated with classical and romantic traditions, the instrument is presented here as a radically versatile medium, moving seamlessly through experimental, ambient, electronic, folk, jazz and contemporary music.
Curated by Souleymane Said, the project assembles an international cast of artists from Greece, France, Peru, the United States, Ethiopia and the Netherlands whose practices extend far beyond traditional harp repertoire: Mary Lattimore, Eve Matin, Ranie Ribeiro, Loréleï Nelle, Sissi Rada, Ahya Simone, Miriam Adefris, Nailah Hunter and Leng Bian. Each contributes a newly commissioned solo composition, revealing a distinct approach to the instrument’s sonic possibilities.
Rather than presenting a unified aesthetic statement, the compilation unfolds as a constellation of singular voices. Across its nine tracks, the harp becomes a vehicle for experimentation, embracing extended techniques, electronic processing, voice and contemporary compositional approaches.
Mastered by Rashad Becker and featuring artwork by Louise Lawler, the record will be released by Latency as a limited edition of 500 vinyl copies.
